PERTH SUB AQUA CLUB
Minimum age to take part is 18 years
Perth Sub Aqua club was formed by a small group of enthusiasts
in 1963. Since then the club has gone from strength to strength, maturing
into one of the most respected in Britain.
Through fund-raising efforts and the salvaging of their own 2000 tonne
vessel the “SS Island”, a wreck in the Forth of Forth, the
club has assembled a massive array of diving equipment and a boat.
Club members have played their part assisting harbour and police authorities
in recovery and salvage work and as members of Perth & Kinross Sports
Council have assisted in promoting 'Come & Try' sessions at Perth
Leisure Pool.
Perth Sub Aqua Club train at Perth Leisure Pool every Wednesday, from
8.30pm to 9.30pm during the months of October to May. From June to October
the club also meet on the first Wednesday of every month from 8.00pm to
9.00pm.
Come & Try Course - (minimum

These do not teach you how to dive but will provide you with experience
utilising underwater breathing apparatus and snorkelling equipment along
with advice on what to buy and the costs. (Advance bookings are taken
at PLP reception, if possible please book in advance - spaces are limited.)
Pre-Holiday Course or Refresher Course
If you are thinking of a holiday with diving or snorkelling, individual
instruction is given on basic buddy diving skills and familiarity with
equipment plus advice on where to dive. The cost of a one hour evening
course is £10.00 plus pool admission. All equipment can be provided
but bring your own if you wish, including a t-shirt or pool suit.
If you are interested in diving and would like more information,
please contact Phil Rodgers 01738 620173.
FAIR CITY LIFE SAVING CLUB - Royal Life Saving Society UK “Converting
Bystanders into Life Savers”
So now the kids can swim and they are
ready for that holiday by the pool or beach. Would you know what to do
if they got into difficulty? How would you recognise a safe spot to swim
or perhaps more importantly a dangerous one! The pool should be safe enough,
but very few hotel pools in Europe or the UK have trained lifeguards.
Fair City Life Saving Club has been providing life saving training for
over 18 years, providing many people with the vital skills necessary to
save a life, not only around water but on land or at home.
Entry level courses are for the Bronze Medallion, which is the benchmark
for lifesaving around the world. As well as water rescue skills, members
are instructed in resuscitation, basic first aid, water safety and water
survival techniques. Many of our members remain in the club and have taken
higher awards - Fair City is the only club in Tayside to teach up to distinction
level - often taking part in open water life saving and lifeguarding awards
at our outdoor venue - Monikie Park in Angus.
Courses
Courses take place twice yearly: at the start of the year and in September.
These are advertised in the local press and PKL facilities.
Club Nights
Club nights begin in the Meeting Room on Tuesday evening, at 7.15pm and
Pool activity takes place between 8.30pm and 9.30pm throughout the year.
General Information
The club is open to anyone aged 14+ (for under 14’s PLP has an excellent
Rookie Life Saver programme) who can comfortably swim 100m on their front,
50m on their back and retrieve a brick from the deep end of the pool.
We have no upper age limit and would encourage anyone to come along. Our
regular members all joined for various reasons, but all stayed for one
reason - because they enjoy it! We pride ourselves in being a very friendly
club and you will be made most welcome.

The Perth Leisure Pool Disabled Club - The Dolphins
- was formed in January 1989 with the backing of Perth & Kinross Sports
Council and Perth & Kinross Leisure. Both organisations were very
much aware of the demand for the club, which could provide disabled access
to the swimming pool. A weekly slot was offered in the training pool,
plus concessionary entry fees for club members.
The Dolphins aim is to provide a friendly environment
in which any physically disabled or person with learning disabilities
can gain enjoyment from the relaxing effect of water regardless of the
ability.
General Information
Open to all ages the club meets every Sunday 6pm - 8pm. New members must
be accompanied by a helper in the first instance, who is able to swim,
but this need can be assessed from time to time.
Anyone who would like more information about the club,
either as a Member of a volunteer helper should contact any of the following:
Irene Black - 01738 620239.
