Disabled Access Day – Saturday 17th January 2015
Saturday 17th January is the first Scottish Disabled Access Day. http://www.disabledaccessday.com/home/
It’s all about encouraging people with a disability and their friends and family to visit a new place they have never been to before. Live Active Leisure is supporting the Centre for Inclusive Living Perth and Kinross this year and will have information at their stand in the St Johns shopping centre, Perth during the day on Saturday 17th.
Live Active Leisure know how important it is to provide great experiences to all of our users and we would encourage you if you have never been to one of our venues to take on the campaign days challenge and ‘Get out there and try something new’.
Our commitment to support people with a disability to improve their wellbeing through active living is outlined in our advice and support information leaflet ‘Make the First Move’. There are so many benefits to being active. As well as improving fitness you spend time with friends, have fun and feel the mental and general wellbeing benefits. LAL operate venues in every locality of Perth and Kinross and offer a range of accessible opportunities that allow individuals and groups to be active on their own or with some support, just have fun or train to the highest levels in your chosen sport. If you need the support of a carer they go for free too. http://www.liveactive.co.uk/carer-statement . We have pools, gyms and sports halls that are accessible for all. You can even pop in to some for a coffee and lunch.
Venues and Activities
Taking the first steps can be daunting. If you contact any one of our venues they will be able to provide you with information about what is available, and if you are not sure about access to the buildings, they can provide a tour at a time that is mutually convenient. Or you can visit our pages on the DisabledGo site. Find your local venue contact information and find the DisabledGo link on each venue page http://www.liveactive.co.uk/
We have been working with a number of groups and agencies over the last few years to coordinate the provision of new opportunities. You might be surprised at what is on offer. Click here for more information. http://www.liveactive.co.uk/wellbeing/179-no-limits-class-timetable
