Walking Football Strides Into Perth
Live Active Leisure are supporting a new initiative to help people with mobility problems stay active. The free ‘Walking Football’ come and try sessions will run at Live Active Letham from the 7th November – 12th December on Friday mornings between 11.15am and 12.15pm.
LAL are working in partnership with Letham Football Club, the Healthy Community Collaborative and Perth and Kinross Council to promote the ‘Walking Football’ concept which was devised in 2011 by Chesterfield FC Community Trust. Based on association football rules, the key difference is the pace at which the game is played. So, there is no running, no slide tackles, no goalkeepers and the ball is not allowed to be kicked above hip height. Just a great kick about and a bit of active enjoyment!
The idea has proved to be a flying success elsewhere as it gives you a great opportunity to relive past glories or to try something new. Benefits include:
- Physical and social wellbeing
- Increased muscle use
- Lowered blood pressure
- Reduced stress levels
- An environment for meeting new people.
We'd love to see you there - anyone who’d like to find out more should call Bill Ellis 01738 634734 or 07957 864289.
