If you’re looking for a great workout, Les Mills classes really hit the mark. Their fitness classes take the world’s best music, best moves and best instructors and bring it all together in a fitness class that you’re guaranteed to fall in love with.

You can find your zen in BodyBalance which incorporates yoga, pilates and tai chi; go from strength to strength in BodyPump, a barbell workout that will get you lean, toned and fit; or unleash your inner warrior with BodyCombat; a high-energy martial arts class.

Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned-pro, our Fitness Instructors are here to guide you through every step and move of your class. We’ve had a chat with Kerry who teaches BodyPump and BodyAttack at Loch Leven Community Campus to find out more about her and her classes.

L is for Les Mills Kerry HoodWhat is your position within Live Active?

I am a group fitness instructor within Live Active. My classes take place at Loch Leven Community Campus.

What qualifications do you have?

I teach four Les Mills classes including BodyAttack, BodyPump, BodyBalance and RPM. I have a Level 2 Exercise to Music qualification which sparked my enthusiasm for group fitness. By day, I am a Primary School teacher and teach locally too!

What do you love most about your job?

I adore group fitness- it helped me lose 4 stone and hooked me from the start. I love being in a room with like-minded people who have made time in their busy lives for themselves. Group fitness makes you feel included, encouraged, and can help you reach new goals. I love being able to play a part in others fitness journeys!

Do you take part in any sports or activities in your spare time?

I attend various group fitness classes as a member – I can’t get enough of it! I also enjoy running when I get the chance. This year I am training for the Great North Run in Newcastle. I was lucky enough to get a ballot place a few years ago and it was a spectacular experience, so I can’t wait to have another go!

What Les Mills classes do you teach and what do they involve?

I teach BodyAttack and BodyPump at Loch Leven Community Campus. These are Les Mills programmes which guarantee a tried and tested workout. BodyAttack is a cardio-inspired interval workout, choreographed to music. I would describe it as bouncy, sweaty and joyous. BodyPump is a barbell workout specifically designed to help you get lean, toned and fit. Don’t worry, you don’t need to be a weightlifter to enjoy BodyPump!

What’s your favourite class to teach and why?

I adore teaching BodyAttack! My Tuesday night class is an absolute giggle and members would say the same. We spend 45 minutes encouraging each other, cheering and working to our limits. BodyAttack is for everyone – it is a vibrant class which provides an immense challenge, but it also offers fantastic options for everyone. The best part is being together and committing to your workout.

What would you say to someone who would like to start going to a Les Mills class, but feels nervous about it?

Les Mills programmes have run all over the world for almost 60 years, so they are very good at what they do. My job is to tailor the class to everyone in my class and create a fun and welcoming place to be. New members are welcomed with open arms and the ‘regulars’ are supportive and encouraging. I will always make sure you have everything you need to get you started… and don’t worry, I won’t pick on you!
