Our Live Active Talented Athlete Scheme harnesses some of the very best local, sporting talent and this month we find out about Stephen Milne, his hopes for Rio and details on a very special kids' Summer Swim Camp at Perth Leisure Pool!

Perth born and bred, Stephen Milne is very much one of us. Having learned to swim in Perth Leisure Pool, he then joined Perth City Swim Club at only 9 years old, and last year he used the same venue as an integral part of his training regime for his role as a member of the Team Scotland Aquatic Squad in the Commonwealth Games.

Stephen swam in the 400m, 1500m and as part of the relay team which earned him his Silver Commonwealth Games Medal.

He has been a member of the Live Active Talented Athlete Scheme for 7 years now and is one of our PH2O ambassadors, a role that combines his passions for sport and the environment. Find out more about this important role over on our PH20 website.

This year, Stephen launched his own website and official facebook page and as the serious business of training for a place on the Great British Team at the Rio Olympics becomes a reality, Stephen has stepped up his role as an ambassador for his sport.

Stephen is passionate about swimming and encouraging young people to get into the pool and enjoy the sport that has made him a well-known Perth & Kinross name. This summer he will attend a very special one-off Swim Camp at Perth Leisure Pool and offer his guidance and encouragement to the kids in attendance.

DATE OF SESSION: TUESDAY 14th July. Stephen will attend from 10am to 10.30am.

All children booked in for this week-long, level 7/8 swim camp at Perth Leisure Pool will enjoy this session with Stephen in the pool. The swim camp runs from 10:00 to 11:00 each day from Monday 13th to Friday 17th. To book, please contact Perth Leisure Pool on 01738 454654 or call into the venue itself.

More About LAL Talented Athletes:
Together with Sportscotland and the Tayside & Fife Institute of Sport, Live Active Leisure works in developing the additional needs of our high achievers. These are the young athletes who demonstrate the skill and commitment required to represent Scotland and Great Britain on an international stage. Live Active Leisure’s Talented Athletes’ Scheme supports these young people by providing assistance and free access to their venues.

This enables them to reach their full potential and to achieve world class performance levels. This is about nurturing and developing our local talent by helping these young athletes train and grow in the support network of their home towns and city. By doing this, we hope to inspire other youngsters in Perth and Kinross and to bring that real sense of achievement a city embraces when celebrating the success of one of their own.
